Santos Swearing In

Santos Sworn In as New Census Bureau Director

Robert Santos was sworn in today as the U.S. Census Bureau’s 26th director, becoming the first Latino person to serve in the role. This appointment follows the U.S. Senate confirmation Nov. 4, 2021, with Santos’ term set to last for five years.

Santos’ career spans more than 40 years in survey research, statistical design and analysis, and executive-level management. He specializes in quantitative and qualitative research design, including program evaluation, needs assessments, survey methodology and survey operations. He also has expertise in demographic and administrative data, decennial censuses, social policy research and equity issues in research.

America Counts: Nation’s Teachers More Diverse but Still Lag Racial, Ethnic Makeup of Students

The racial and ethnic diversity of the nation’s 6.6 million teachers has increased since 1990 but has not caught up with the diversity of their students, according to a  Census Bureau analysis of employment and population data.

About one quarter of all teachers — who represented about 4% of U.S. workers — were non-White and 9.4% were Hispanic or Latino, compared with 16% and 4%, respectively, three decades ago.

Call for Presentations: Deadline Extended to January 21

The LEHD program is welcoming proposals to present at the 2022 LED Partnership Virtual Workshop held on April 5-7, 2022. We will be highlighting the work of our state Labor Market Information (LMI) partners and other data users through plenary sessions.

This year's theme is, " Making Sense of Data in a New Era," and we are interested in presentations from a wide variety of disciplines, including, but not limited to: workforce development, economic development, transportation planning, economic analysis, and emergency management. We are particularly interested in examples from our state partners and strongly encourage LMI shops to apply.
