Extra Time to Submit Detailed DHC Use Cases; Webinar December 9

The Census Bureau has extended the deadline to submit use cases for the Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (Detailed DHC) until December 18, 2021. We will inform data users of further development and scheduling plans once those are established.

Meanwhile, analysis of the submitted use cases for the Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (DHC), which were accepted through October 22, is underway and on schedule.

You can find proposed plans for both data products in the 2020 Census Data Product Planning Crosswalk. It compares the proposed 2020 Census data tables to the 2010 Census published tables, including the proposed lowest levels of geography, table shells, and content changes. For helpful guidance on navigating the crosswalk’s tabs and tables, see this webinar.

Specifically, we are seeking detailed descriptions of your use cases for Detailed DHC tables and the geographies you need, which will help our agency understand how you will use these data.

We welcome and encourage all feedback. Please send comments and questions to 2020DAS@census.gov with “2020 Census Data Products” in the subject line.

Webinar December 9: Status Update on Upcoming Data Products

Join us December 9, 3:00-4:00 pm ET, for a status update on the DHC and a deeper dive into preliminary Detailed DHC product plans. As a reminder, the Detailed DHC will provide population counts, as well as demographic and housing statistics for detailed racial and ethnic groups, and American Indian and Alaska Native tribes and villages. The detailed groups will include data from the detailed checkboxes and write-in areas of the 2020 Census questionnaire and will include groups such as German, Lebanese, Jamaican, Chinese, Native Hawaiian, Mexican, Navajo Nation, etc.

The Detailed DHC product also will include data for complex person and household join tables (e.g., tables showing population in occupied housing units) not included in DHC.

Learn more about proposed table changes, including changes to content and geographies, and take the opportunity to ask questions of our subject matter experts, at the December 9 webinar.
