STATS FOR STORIES (SFS)

Today is Women's Equality Day. Tomorrow is Petroleum Day. September is Wilderness Month and Preparedness Month. There are four weeks left of Summer 2021. Speaking of seasons, it's Back to School season and Hurricane Season (three disturbances to watch this week).

Women’s Equality Day: August 26

According to the Current Population Survey, 2020 voter turnout was 68.4% for women and 65.0% for men. About 9.7 million more women than men voted.

National Petroleum Day: August 27

U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services reported seasonally adjusted petroleum exports were 12.2% of U.S. goods exports in June 2021 vs 10.9% in 2019

Back to School 2021: August

The October 2018 Current Population Survey found 76.8 million total students enrolled in school, which is 24.6 percent of the population 3 years and older.

National Preparedness Month: September

When major disasters strike, visit the Census Bureau's Emergency Management page to access demographic and economic data for the impacted areas.

National Wilderness Month: September

The 1964 Wilderness Act created the National Wilderness Preservation System, which now includes 803 areas (111,696,927 acres) in 44 states and Puerto Rico.

Summer 2021: June 20-September 22

Summer 2021 began with the Summer Solstice on June 20th and will end with the Autumnal Equinox on September 22nd. The Dog Days are July 3rd to August 11th.

2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season: June 1-November 30
