Latest System Updates

Last month, we released new updates to improve your experience on data.census.gov. With this release, you will now see:

  • Enhanced headers
  • New options for large tables
  • Improved mapping visualization
  • Microdata API datasets in the API Discovery Tool
  • Fixes to 31 defects

Learn More

A major theme of the release is to make it easier to access and view data across the platform. For example, an enhanced header provides new links to the Advanced Search, Microdata, and a variety of educational resources so you can access them in one easy click. We added these links based on feedback from data users who said these resources were difficult to locate.

We also improved your ability to view tables and maps. When you click on a large table, you have a new option to try to view the data on screen, rather than only being able to download the table. In the thematic maps, we now use thinner boundary lines that help you visualize differences between geographies more easily.

And finally, we added a new option for developers to access microdata through the application programming interface (API). This includes access through the API Discovery Tool and a new Microdata API User Guide.
