Census in the Time of COVID
U.S. Census Bureau Director Steven Dillingham discusses adjustments to the 2020 Census amid the COVID-19 pandemic on the Director's Blog.
"In carrying out our mission and wide range of responsibilities – from the 2020 Census to our many national surveys – we must protect the health and safety of those we serve and employ." –Director Steven Dillingham

Statement from the Census Bureau and CDC on 2020 Census Follow-Up
In carrying out our respective missions, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are committed to protecting the health and safety of those we serve and employ. This is particularly important during the current COVID-19 health crisis.
Participation in 2020 Census interviews should present a low risk of transmission of COVID-19.

State by State Total Response Rates
The Census Bureau has ramped up efforts across the country so everyone is counted.
- We're training census takers to follow up with households by phone.
- We're contacting nonresponding households by mailing an additional paper questionnaire.
- We're emailing households with a response rate lower than 50% to remind them to respond.
More than 75% of households have now been counted in the 2020 Census. Check out what percentage of households in your state have been counted by census takers, as well as total response rates from across the country. When more households self-respond to the census, census takers will have fewer households to visit.
