The country has reached an important milestone in the 2020 Census. Half of all of the households in the country have responded – that’s nearly 74 million responses! It has never been easier to respond to the census on your own, whether online at 2020census.gov, over the phone, or by mail.

The 2020 Census response rate map below shows how cities and towns across the country are now responding. The map will be updated daily around 3 p.m. for everyone to see the response rate in their area and compare it to other areas across the nation.

2020 Census: Your Response Matters

Invitations to respond to the 2020 Census were delivered last month. About 64 million households across the nation were recently sent a paper questionnaire.

About the 2020 Census

The U.S. Constitution mandates a census of the population every 10 years. The 2020 Census will count everyone who lives in the U.S. as of April 1, 2020. Census statistics help determine the number of seats each state holds in the U.S. House of Representatives and how billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated by state, local, and federal lawmakers every year for the next 10 years.
