Saturday is the first day of winter, the winter solstice, the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It is also National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, commemorated annually since 1990.

On December 17, 1903, Orville Wright piloted the first flight for 12 seconds and 120 feet. On the fourth and final flight, Wilbur flew 59 seconds and 852 feet.
The first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution focus on individual rights and were ratified on Dec. 15, 1791. Amendment I protects freedom of expression.
