Capitol Reflecting Pool Spring Cleaning

Reflecting Pool Clean-up

Starting March 17, 2013 the Capitol Reflecting Pool located at the West Front of the Capitol (east end of the National Mall) will be drained and cleaned as part of regular maintenance performed by the AOC. The work is anticipated to take approximately one week. The Reflecting Pool will be refilled when completed. more


Sidewalk and Street Repairs

Repairs are occurring across Capitol Hill to replace sidewalks, repair gutters and curbs, and pave streets that have reached the end of their serviceable life.  View map of current work.

Conflict and Compromise

Now at Capitol Visitor Center Exhibition Hall -  a new selection of historic documents and artifacts entitled “Conflict and Compromise.” By providing a place for debate and compromise, Congress has led the nation through challenging times. Several items in the new selection focus on the Mexican War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. more

Snow at the Library of Congress Packard Campus 

While Capitol Hill had no accumulation of snow on March 6, 2013 - the Library of Congress Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia received nearly a foot.

Capitol Illumination

Dome Night

As I pass my colleagues on the sidewalk while I walk up the hill, I watch the stars disappear from the sky as the sun's light brightens it. And this week, I've also watched as the lights that illuminate the Capitol Dome at night shut off, leading me to wonder about why they're turning off at that moment, and who’s making it happen. more
