Police Week at the U.S. Capitol

Honoring Service, Sacrifice and a Unique Partnership

During the observation of Police Week and the Peace Officers Memorial Day, we celebrate the men and women of the United States Capitol Police who put their lives on the line to protect America's beacon of democracy. Throughout the year, and especially during Police Week, the AOC is honored to be in partnership with USCP in support of the United States Congress.

Capitol Stone Completed Work on the Senate Extension

Stone Preservation Continues at U.S. Capitol

After successfully completing restoration on the Senate Extension last year, work on the U.S. Capitol Exterior Preservation Project continues on the House side of the building. Preparation activities are already underway, and later this year scaffolding will begin to rise on the House Extension of the Capitol. Between the recent Dome restoration and the stone restoration, the Capitol Building will look better than it has in decades.

Improved Duck Ramp Installed at Capitol Reflecting Pool

Return of the Ducks

Each spring, mallard ducks return to Union Square and the Capitol Reflecting Pool – an oasis in the urban jungle of Washington, D.C.— and as the temperatures rise in the region, newly-hatched ducklings will join the fray. Last year, the AOC collaborated with City Wildlife to help the Capitol Hill ducklings. The ramps we built and installed at the Capitol Reflecting Pool to safely and effectively assist ducks in and out of the water are back out this spring with a couple of modifications, and are already being enjoyed by new ducklings.

Bring Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day 2018

Inspiring the Next Generation

The AOC once again celebrated Bring Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day by hosting the children of employees from across the agency. The kids had a chance to talk with leaders, including Chief Operating Officer Christine Merdon, take a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building and experience the various kinds of work AOC performs to support Congress and the Supreme Court. Read more about our areas of expertise.
