NOVEMBER 2022
Accelerating innovation and technology to #EndHunger
We need to accelerate and dramatically expand our efforts to feed a world that’s faced with more devastating climate shocks, rising food prices and protracted conflict. Feed the Future is answering that call in many ways, including by spurring research and innovation. Through our partnerships with American universities, local research institutions, private sector and smallholder farmers, we’re developing climate-smart practices for communities to produce safer and more nutritious food, more efficiently. We’re scaling these practices so that women, youth and marginalized communities have the tools they need to feed themselves and generations to come.
This November at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP27), President Biden galvanized momentum to support vulnerable countries in building resilience to climate impacts – underscoring the PREPARE Action Plan to help more than half a billion people adapt to and manage the impacts of climate change and advancing the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate to support climate smart food systems innovation. This builds on the launch of the new U.S. Government Global Food Security Research Strategy, announced by Feed the Future Global Coordinator and USAID Administrator Samantha Power at this year’s World Food Prize in October.
Our experience shows that growth in the agricultural sector is at least twice as effective in reducing poverty than growth in other sectors. By investing in agricultural productivity, food safety and nutrition, our stories this month demonstrate how we’re redefining what's possible.
