Delivering an Inclusive Response to the Global Food Security Crisis
Every person, regardless of their identity, is instrumental to the transformation of their own societies. That idea – of inclusive development – is at the heart of Feed the Future’s work to end hunger, poverty and malnutrition. For countries to prosper, we empower women, youth and members of marginalized groups to capitalize on opportunities in agriculture and become active changemakers in their communities.
Today, a perfect storm of factors is threatening global food security – from the pandemic, devastating climate shocks and now Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Our experience shows that women, youth, children and marginalized groups often bear the brunt of these crises. Yet evidence also shows that if we take action that considers the specific needs and capacities of these groups, then we can break the cycle of poverty, rather than exacerbate existing inequalities. Feed the Future is driving global efforts by investing in, working with and supporting local voices so they can adapt and respond to shocks without compromising their food security, nutrition and livelihoods. By prioritizing equity and equality in our response, Feed the Future is ensuring our efforts are more impactful, benefit more people and strengthen resilience for all.
