At the 2024 Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden announced the U.S. Government's pledge of at least $1.58 billion to support Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance (Gavi), over the next five years.
Â
"It’s my honor to announce that my husband President Biden, working with Congress, is pledging $1.58 billion over the next five years to support Gavi’s efforts. The United States is deeply committed to this work."
U.S. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden

This builds on a 24-year partnership that has immunized over one billion children and saved 17 million lives. The new commitment will support Gavi to vaccinate the next one billion children within a decade and will help save over eight million lives by reaching unvaccinated children, expanding vaccinations for diseases like malaria and cervical cancer, and enhancing emergency health preparedness.
Â
Further with the launch of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator, Gavi will support African countries to produce vaccines locally, promoting vaccine equity and swift responses to future health crises. This is the U.S.'s first-ever five-year commitment and an eight percent increase from previous support.
