Rapid Airfield Damage Recovery (RADR) training prepares Airmen to readily respond to and repair compromised airfields. On 24 and 25 Aug, RADR training was held in the United Kingdom for the first time, where a 15 person team successfully identified, excavated, and covered two craters at Royal Air Force Lakenheath. In this photo, members of the 48 CES utilize specialized equipment to clear an excavation site (USAF photo by SrA Koby I. Saunders).

Powering Pods
786 CES Airmen have continued to support Operation Allies Refuge by ensuring reliable power generation for evacuee, medical, admin, and command control pods as people arrive from Afghanistan. Thanks to previous deployment and training experience, these Airmen were ready to make an impact by ensuring reliable access to lighting, heat, and ventilation.
Innovation in Runway Maintenance
CE Weekly submission by 2Lt Natalie A. Smalley
Kaden AB, Japan, is unique in that the Airmen in the base’s Pavements and Equipment Shop complete their own runway rubber removal with a system they created themselves. Their process reduces runway hazards while saving resources, ensuring the runway is always ready to support the largest Operations Group in the Air Force.
Repair What's Already There
Airmen from the 380 ECES and 1 ECEG collectively poured a slab of concrete for a lodging expansion project at Al Dhafra AB, United Arab Emirates. The diversity in experience present created a unique opportunity for Airmen to learn from each other and apply their developed skillset to a bigger scale project.

DoD Vaccination Mandate
On 24 Aug, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III issued a memorandum stating that all DoD Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve Service Members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This decision was made as the FDA granted its full approval of the Comirnaty vaccine, previously known as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. As the military departments enforce this mandate, they are actively providing commanders with necessary resources to support their teammates.
Airmen Deliver ‘Reach’ Baby
During an evacuation flight aboard a C-17 to Ramstein AB, Germany, an Afghan woman who was 34 weeks pregnant went into labor, prompting emergency responders from the 86 CEG, 86 MDG, and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center to rush to the scene as the plane landed. Thanks to their heroic actions, personnel were able to assess the condition of the mother and child, provide critical medical equipment, and aid in the successful delivery of a baby girl.
