The Children’s Bureau (CB) has established a new Tribal Cross-Functional Team (TCFT) to strengthen coordination, consistency, and alignment across the Bureau’s tribal-facing work. The TCFT will serve as the central internal coordination body for tribal-related activities across CB, supporting greater collaboration across policy, funding, technical assistance, fiscal oversight, data, and program implementation efforts affecting Tribes and Tribal organizations. The establishment of the TCFT reflects CB's ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships with Tribal Nations and ensuring that tribal child welfare programs are supported through coordinated, transparent, and responsive federal engagement. The team brings together staff and subject matter experts from across CB divisions to improve information-sharing, reduce duplication of effort, promote consistent policy interpretation, and support alignment across cross-cutting tribal initiatives. The TCFT will also support coordination related to tribal consultations, advisory committees, technical assistance efforts, discretionary grants, interagency collaboration, and emerging tribal child welfare priorities.
Nanette Bishop will serve as the lead for the TCFT, with support from other CB staff across the Bureau. The team will work across CB divisions and regional offices to strengthen internal coordination and support a more integrated approach to tribal engagement and program implementation.
CB remains committed to working in partnership with Tribal Nations to improve outcomes for Native children, youth, and families and to support Tribal sovereignty through meaningful collaboration and engagement.
