Resources For Supporting Youth Before, During, and After Foster Care
|

Adoption is about much more than achieving legal permanency. It's about building connections that provide support and a sense of belonging for young people throughout their lives. This includes supporting youth in cultivating relationships with their families, siblings, friends, communities, and other integral figures in their network.
It involves intentional recruitment efforts, such as identifying and collaborating with kin and recruiting adoptive families who reflect diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

|
Equally important is equipping the workforce and families with culturally responsive information to support youth throughout their adoption journey. Lasting bonds should extend beyond connections with adoptive families and bridge the gap between a young person's adoptive family and family of origin.
The National Adoption Month campaign features tips, tools, and resources to support your work engaging young people, prioritizing kin-first culture, and celebrating a young person's race, ethnicity, and culture.
