The Child Welfare Sexual Orientation Gender Identity and Expression Institute (SOGIE Institute) is calling for information about existing policies, practices, and resources that may support state, local, and tribal child welfare agencies in serving Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and Two-Spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) children, youth, and their families. We are interested in hearing from individuals with diverse backgrounds, including state, local, and tribal agency staff and administrators; researchers; practitioners; community partners; and people with lived experience with the child welfare system.
What are we interested in learning about?
The Child Welfare Sexual Orientation Gender Identity and Expression Institute (SOGIE Institute) is interested in resources for supporting LGBTQIA2S+ children, youth, and their families in the child welfare system, including:
- Research or other literature, including peer reviewed studies and studies or reports from research and advocacy organizations about practices for affirming and supporting LGBTQIA2S+ children, youth, and their families.
- Practice and guidance documents, policy implementation guidance, and other sources explaining programs, interventions, services, and supports for LGBTQIA2S+ children and youth.
- State, local, and tribal policy documents related to supporting affirming environments for LGBTQIA2S+ youth.
- Related initiatives to affirm and support LGBTQIA2S+ youth in the child welfare system.
Practices reviewed in the literature need not have an evidence base to be included.
Why are we making this call?
Information collected from this call will inform planning for training and technical assistance to state, local, and tribal child welfare agencies. The SOGIE Institute will offer training and technical assistance to address disparities experienced by LGBTQIA2S+ children, youth, and their families by transforming systems and improving well-being.
