Recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of domestic violence—also known as intimate partner violence or family violence (IPV/FV)—and its impact on children, youth, and families. This month, we focus on how we can safeguard families by connecting child welfare and IPV/FV services and providing education, prevention services, and community supports. |
IPV/FV affects people of all ages, genders, and nationalities and often intersects with other social issues. It is critical that child welfare and related professionals practice nonjudgmental, strengths-based support when working with these families. As families make decisions about safety and service needs, caseworkers should partner with them to enhance safety and establish support networks. By understanding these connections, we can better help families stay safe and healthy. |
