This collection of newly released Spanish-language publications aims to help child welfare professionals and agencies, parents, and families navigate the U.S. child welfare system. Publications for Families

• Orientación para familias inmigrantes y refugiadas: la crianza de los hijos en un país nuevo (Guidance for Immigrant and Refugee Families: Parenting in a New Country)
  This factsheet discusses topics and challenges immigrant and refugee families may encounter that could affect the well-being of their child or family. It describes some of the challenges of raising children in a new country, how the immigrant or refugee experience might affect family dynamics and well-being, and how a family’s strengths can help during difficult times.

• Orientación para familias inmigrantes y refugiadas: el sistema de bienestar de menores (Guidance for Immigrant and Refugee Families: The Child Welfare System)
  This factsheet aims to help immigrant and refugee families understand what the U.S. child welfare system is and how it can help them keep their children safe. It also discusses some of the issues immigrant and refugee families may encounter if they become involved with the child welfare system and their rights in child welfare scenarios.
  
  

• Comprensión del bienestar de menores y los tribunales (Understanding Child Welfare and the Courts)
  This factsheet provides general information about the legal process and informs families of their rights and responsibilities. It includes information about the different stages of court proceedings, how parents and family members can prepare for court hearings, and who and what to expect in the courtroom and throughout the various court processes.
  
  

• Planeando la adopción: conozca los costos y recursos (Planning for Adoption: Knowing the Costs and Resources)
  This factsheet explains the various adoption expenses and some of the resources that may be available depending on the type of adoption. Adoption-related expenses vary widely, which makes it difficult to predict the exact costs parents may face.

  This tip sheet briefly describes the advantages and challenges youth in foster care may encounter when using social media.
  
  

• Redes sociales: consejos para padres de crianza y proveedores de cuidado (Social Media: Tips for Foster Parents and Caregivers)
  This tip sheet briefly describes the advantages and challenges individuals may encounter when using social media in their role as caregivers. It offers tips on handling issues that may arise and discusses ways to guide youth in the safe use of social media.
  
  

• De la queja a la resolución: entendiendo el proceso de reclamos del sistema de bienestar de menores (From Complaint to Resolution: Understanding the Child Welfare Grievance Process)
  This factsheet provides parents (birth, foster, and adoptive) and other caregivers with information about the best way to resolve their differences with a child welfare service provider or other related professional. Since child welfare agency policies and procedures vary by state, this factsheet presents information from a national perspective and points to additional state-specific resources. This factsheet addresses many of the challenges experienced by families involved with the child protective services system and highlights the available grievance channels.

Publications for Professionals

• Participación familiar: colaborar con las familias para mejorar los resultados de bienestar de menores (Family Engagement: Partnering With Families to Improve Child Welfare Outcomes)
  This bulletin provides an overview of the foundational elements of the family engagement approach, followed by strategies and promising implementation practices. While this publication is intended to provide information for caseworkers who directly engage families, it also provides information about family engagement at the system, program, and community levels, as best practices are grounded in these higher levels of the child welfare system.

• Trabajar con familias inmigrantes y refugiadas: una guía para trabajadores de bienestar de menores (Working With Immigrant and Refugee Families: A Guide for Child Welfare Caseworkers)
  This bulletin provides strategies to help child welfare caseworkers provide effective and culturally responsive services to the immigrant and refugee families they support.
  
  

• Trabajar con familias inmigrantes y refugiadas: una guía para agencias de bienestar de menores (Working With Immigrant and Refugee Families: A Guide for Child Welfare Agencies)
  This bulletin describes strategies that child welfare agencies can use at the systems level to improve case outcomes for immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families. Immigration issues in child welfare differ across jurisdictions, depending on location and the concentration of resident immigrants and refugees, and there are certain policies and practices that agencies can implement to best serve these populations.

  This tip sheet briefly describes the advantages and challenges child welfare workers may encounter when using social media with foster parents and youth in foster care.

  This factsheet is designed to help kin caregivers work effectively with the child welfare system. It also includes resources, such as links to more detailed information or places to find support, to help caregivers learn about and navigate the child welfare system.
