We are pleased to announce our bimonthly newsletter, the DX Learning Corner. This newsletter will provide the child welfare field with information on the Division X technical assistance (TA) currently being offered. You’ll learn about hot topics, important events on areas of interest, the experiences of our consultants and Regional Office liaisons that are partnering to support states, Tribes, and territories in better serving youth and young adults in and transitioning from foster care – and so much more!
Meet the Team!
Since this is our first newsletter, we wanted to introduce our team and the roles they play on the project. Partnership is essential in this effort—with young leaders, with the Children’s Bureau’s Regional Offices, with jurisdictions, and with all of you. We would not be able to do this work without the Children’s Bureau Regional Offices and the staff who support our consultants. They have been integral in this partnership; and help guide the work and the impact we are making in jurisdictions. We look forward to sharing more about our experiences, lessons learned, and to meeting and working with many of you in the coming months!
Hot Topic – Mental Health
Every newsletter will include a Hot Topic section that features articles, research, and resources on topics relevant to the child welfare field. We hope this space provides you information and support as you and your agency engage youth and young adults!
In late 2021, the U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory on Protecting Youth Mental Health brought attention to the mental health crisis affecting youth and young adults. Understanding the problem and providing information and referral to this population can ensure that they receive responsive services and supports in a timely manner. Check out and share these resources focused on supporting Youth and Young Adults mental health and wellness. In the next bi-monthly newsletter we will share a new tip sheet for youth and young adults and those who work with them, Responding to Youth and Young Adult Mental Health Needs. Stay tuned!
Resources are included for informational purposes only. The list is not comprehensive and does not constitute an endorsement by CB.
Announcing our Targeted Assistant Projects (TAPs)
On March 15th 2022 the Division X TA team launched the targeted assistance projects (TAPs)!
The purpose of TAPs is to help child welfare agencies build capacity and make sustainable improvements to policies and practices for youth and young adults in and transitioning from foster care. The Division X TA team will leverage its expertise and partnerships with youth and young adults to improve outcomes and advance equity by applying youth-centered promising and best practices. TAPs will include youth and young adult voice in all aspects of the projects. Project will consist of approximately 100 days of implementation. Stay tuned to learn more about TAPs and the projects underway in your jurisdiction!
