U.S. Access Board Section 508 Best Practices Webinar: Beyond the Alt Tag: Accessible Name
The reasoning, best practices, and available technology for creating accessible images and text alternatives has evolved over the last several years. Expert web developers are building upon the foundation of text alternative techniques, such as “alt tags,” to newer concepts, such as “Accessible Name” and “Accessible Description” for HTML. This approach provides better accessibility. The next webinar in the Section 508 Best Practices Webinar Series will take place Tuesday, March 28 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (ET) and discuss how U.S. Access Board staff implement these updated concepts when developing the Technical Guides to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards. Attendees will understand the reason for these changes and gain practical strategies for adding “Accessible Name” to their vocabulary and toolkits. This webinar is open to all but will be of particular interest for experienced web developers.
For more details or to register, visit Great Lakes ADA Center’s Beyond the Alt Tag: Accessible Name webpage. Questions can be submitted in advance of the session or can be posed during the live webinar. Webinar attendees can receive a participation certificate for attending the 90-minute session.
Registration closes 24 hours before the start of the session. Instructions for accessing the webinar on the day of the session will be sent via email to registered individuals in advance of the session. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and Video Sign Language Interpreters are available for the session and will be broadcast via the webinar platform. A telephone option (not toll-free) for receiving audio is also available.
