Over 50,000 free school meals served to pupils as part of York Hungry Minds campaign
York Community Fund’s York Hungry Minds Appeal was set up in a bid to address disadvantage and the impact of the cost of living crisis, responding to national evidence suggesting that providing children with healthy, nourishing food can make a significant difference to school attendance, concentration and learning and their physical and mental wellbeing.
Westfield Primary Community School pupils were the first school to benefit from the free school meals in January 2024, with Burton Green Primary School pupils (pictured) receiving free breakfasts later that month and Fishergate Primary School joining the pilot in March 2025. Find out more about this here
And there’s lots of places in York offering free or reduced kids meals over the summer holidays.

It's never too late to get your MMR vaccination
Millions of parents and carers in England are being urged to book their children in for both doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to protect children from becoming seriously unwell, as measles cases continue to rise across the country.
For further information about measles visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/
Anyone who suspects they or their child has measles should call their GP surgery or NHS 111 first before turning up at a healthcare setting such as a GP practice, urgent treatment centre or accident and emergency department, to help stop the spread of the virus.

We’ve launched a new draft strategy to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families in York.
Young people, parents and carers, schools and health and childcare professionals are being invited to share their views on the Inclusion and Belonging Strategy over the next few months.
We’ve also partnered with Humber and North Yorkshire ICB, to unveil a new draft strategy aimed at improving the lives of autistic people and those with ADHD across the city.
‘A City That Works for All’ is now open for feedback from residents, professionals, and community groups. The final version will be published in Autumn 2025.
