Welcome to your latest Families update
Welcome to your latest families update. This week we've got information on National Adoption Week, fun things to do in York this half-term, the upcoming Baby Week, planned closures on Queen Street and much more.
National Adoption Week highlights all kinds of adoption journeys
This year’s National Adoption Week (21-27 October) aims to increase understanding of modern adoption, the diversity of adoption journeys today and show that ‘the journey to a family is not always a traditional one’.
The campaign will highlight the ‘village’ that makes every adoption journey unique - from social workers and foster carers to birth families and grandparents – who help support and navigate the journey along the way.

Be Bright, Be Seen, Be Safe
As we prepare for the clocks to go back, it’s important to remember to Be Bright, Be Seen, Be Safe this Winter!
Bikeability trainers in schools have joined forces with the City of York and North Yorkshire safeguarding children's teams, to remind people of the importance of children being safe and seen.

Who’s in charge?
Most parents or carers who drink alcohol or use drugs do it in moderation and are not a risk to their children.
However, drinking alcohol and drug use may make you less aware of your child’s needs. So it's important to ask 'Who's in charge'?

We need to talk
The NHS across Humber and North Yorkshire are asking residents to take part in a conversation about the future of the NHS in our area.
From 14 October to 11 November, people can take part in the conversation and signal how they might want the NHS to change to meet the challenges of today and the demands of the future.

Baby Week is coming to York for the first time this November
The national initiative (14-20 November) celebrates services working with young families and raises awareness of the importance of early childhood. As a host city, York will celebrate the work of local maternity and early years services, helping to give every baby the best start in life.
Parents and carers across the city will be able to find out more about the amazing range of services available to young children and their families, and take part in local events and activities including storytime, stay and play events and a nearly new sale of children’s toys and clothes.

As part of the work to transform the area to the front of York Station, Queen Street (including the new diversion road) will be closed for 5 nights from Monday 4 November 7:30pm - 6am.
You can find out more about the works by checking the travel and diversion information online, or at the online information event on Monday 28 October 6-7pm.
