Welcome to your latest Families update
Welcome to your latest families update. This week we've got information on the new national breakfast club scheme, being up-to-date on your winter vaccinations, Recycling Week and more.
New national breakfast club scheme for primary schools
Primary Schools across York are being urged to join the government’s scheme to host free breakfast clubs, following on from the pioneering work of the city’s York Hungry Minds Appeal.
Local councillors are urging state-funded primary schools across the city to register their interest in becoming early adopters of the new scheme, which will launch in April 2025.

York walls set to be transformed
The first stage of an ambitious project to transform the City Walls embankments has begun, with the sowing of wildflower seeds.
The York Walls in Bloom project aims to see these spaces evolve into a beautiful biodiverse landscape, which residents and visitors should be able to see bloom into life from next spring near Station Rise.

It's recycling week next week
York does a fantastic job of recycling at kerbside, but there’s more we can do.
During Recycling Week [14-20 October], we’ll be highlighting how everyday trips can become opportunities to recycle more. For more tips and advice on how to recycle more sign up to our Waste email update which will provide a useful guide on what you can and can’t recycle at kerbside, and much more! You can also visit Recycle Now website to find the nearest recycling points for various items that can’t be recycled at the kerbside.
Mental health support
World Mental Health Day (10 October) gives us all a chance to come together to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. Talking about mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs, so on World Mental Health Day and beyond it, why not check in with your friends, family, peers, or colleagues?
For information about mental health support for children, young people and families locally visit Raise York.
