 York Register Office donates to Special Care Baby Unit
Over the past 12 years York Register Office has raised more than £46,500 to help fund specialist training and equipment for York Hospital's Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
The latest donation of £4,400 was made earlier this month thanks to funds donated by generous local parents when they register a birth.

Celebrating Environment Week
Residents are being invited to celebrate Environment Week by walking or taking the bus to be in with a chance to win free bus travel.
To take part all you need to do is log a journey by foot, bike or bus on the Better Points app to enter the weekly draws.

New housing agreed for disabled people
Senior councillors have agreed to build 14 new specialist homes in Acomb to meet the increasing need for housing for disabled adults and adults with learning disabilities.
The apartments, which will also include communal areas and support facilities, will be built on the popular Lowfield Green site.

Age UK York will be hosting their next event 'Planning for Later Life' at York Explore on Monday (23 September).
The session will provide guidance on wills, Power of Attorneys and housing options in later life.

York's 50+ festival returns
The 19th York 50+ festival will be taking place with more than 120 activities across the city, and residents are invited to take part.
Taking place from 21 September to 6 October, events will include sharing skills, tasters of new activities and meeting new friends, focussing on the 'Memories and Dreams' of older people.

Falls Awareness Week
Did you know that one in 30 adults over 65, and half of those over 80, will have at least one fall this year?
Taking place from 23 to 27 September, Fall Awareness Week aims to raise awareness and help people to take actions that prevent falls, for themselves and others.

Recycle your coffee pods in York
Coffee lovers can now dispose of their used coffee pods in an environmentally friendly way at our household waste recycling centres (HWRCs).
The new system is being introduced in collaboration with Podback, a coffee pod recycling service, and means that pods and grounds can be disposed of sustainably.
