October 2022
Save money and the planet
You could improve your home’s energy efficiency and save money on bills with our sustainable warmth grants. They are for low income households to make improvements like wall and loft insulation, double glazing, solar panels and air source heat pumps. To be eligible, residents must have a gross household income of less than £31,000 year and have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of E, F or G. EPC can be arranged for anyone who does not have one and has an energy inefficient property. For more information about the scheme including details on how to apply, visit actonenergy.org.uk or call
Act On Energy on 0800 988 2881 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

International Repair Day
Fix it, don’t throw it! Will you be joining in International Repair Day on Saturday 15 October? It celebrates the power of community repair to prevent waste and share skills. If you need a hand repairing we have two regular repair cafes in the district. These are run by volunteers. From electrical appliances to toys and tools, they will have a go at repairing them for you. The repairs are free but please donate towards their running costs. All details about the repair cafes and other community groups for sustainable living are available on our website.

Recycle Week - new date!
Recycle Week is now taking place from Monday 17- Sunday 23 October and is focusing on ‘Getting Real’. We know residents have more questions than ever about their recycling so we’re supporting the Recycle Now campaign. Recycling in the UK saves 18 million tonnes of Co2 a year. By getting our recycling right we can also have an impact. One wrong item in the recycling bin from each of us can make whole lorry loads unrecyclable. If you are not sure whether an item can go in your green bin. Please check our ‘What goes in which bin' webpage.

Garden waste reminder
Any garden waste customers who were due a collection on Monday 19 September will have an additional collection on Monday 5 December. This is to replace the collection we cancelled on Monday 19 September, the date of Queen Elizabeth II’s State funeral. New short-term accommodation development approved
One of the council’s strategic actions is to implement measures to increase affordable housing. At the planning committee in September, plans for a new three-storey residential building for short-term accommodation units were approved. We hope to start work on the development on the corner of Castle Road and New Road in Kidderminster later this year. It will provide 20 ensuite accommodation units along with office space, associated car parking and landscaping. There will also be a shared kitchen diner and lounge area on each floor and an outside space for residents.

Review of polling places
Two of the places we use for polling stations are no longer available. These are the Gainsborough House Hotel in Kidderminster and the Workmen's Club in Stourport. Later this month we will be launching a survey to ask for your views on our suggested new venues and to find out any other possible locations. Look out for the survey on our website.

Council Tax Reduction Scheme - survey closing
Have you had your say yet? There is just a week left to give us your views on our plans to change our scheme which helps those on low income with their Council Tax bill. With the current scheme, all working age households have to pay at least 20% of their bill. The amount they pay depends on their income. We are asking you whether we should change the scheme and offer more support. The survey is only about the working age households. It does not include pensioners. Survey closes 5pm, Monday 10 October.

Showcase of services for older people
We are delighted that our Showcase event is back and in person this year. It offers free information and advice on healthy living, finances, benefits and local services for older people. We have also done it a bit differently, having three smaller events in the three towns. The events in Kidderminster and Bewdley were really well received. There is once last chance to catch the Showcase on tour, it will be at Stourport Medical Centre, this Thursday (6 October) 10am – 12pm.

Stourport Christmas Market
This Christmas we are delighted to be working with Stourport Forward to bring a Christmas market to the town. It will be in the lower car park behind the Civic Centre on Saturday 3 December from 10am until 3pm. If you are interested in having a stall please contact gill.edwards@stourportforward.org.uk. Pitches cost £25 and all stall holders must have their own public liability insurance.

It does this through Claire Spencer’s oil paintings and Colin Hill’s black and white photographs. Enjoy the contrast of rural and urban landscapes. Runs until Sunday 30 October.
