Ukraine Independence Day

On 24 August the people of Ukraine mark their Independence Day, which will be exactly six months since Russia’s invasion, and 31 years since declaring independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.  To show both the UK’s continued support for the people of Ukraine, and to thank the British public for their continued support and generosity, the UK government has been working closely with the Ukrainian government on their plans to mark this Independence Day, at a time when they are fighting for their freedom.

You can show support for Ukrainians in several ways including:

Lighting up buildings blue and yellow, or flying the Ukrainian flag on 23 August and sharing imagery of that on your channels on the 24 August using #StandforFreedom #StandWithUkraine and ‘Ukraine Independence Day’ in the copy.

Sharing videos that the Ukraine government will post on social media on 23/24 August with the hashtags #StandforFreedom #StandWithUkraine.

Displaying Ukraine’s #StandforFreedom campaign materials on any advertising space you may have. e.g. at events in the run up to and beyond the 24 August.

Sharing any compelling local Ukrainian voices or inspiring stories of local support (including hosting) or UK-Ukraine unity which we could incorporate into this day.  If you wish to share stories, please contact Georgie Redgate georgina.redgate@cabinetoffice.gov.uk and Fee Cameron  fiona.cameron@cabinetoffice.gov.uk
