In 2021, recognising the need for a constant pool of local talent, Simon Hyde, Chief Executive of FAUN Zoeller UK and local business leaders launched ‘Power Up’ a mentoring scheme for local young people in Redditch.  Simon and colleagues on the Power Up team are now proactively looking for mentors who have a can-do attitude and experience in their chosen field to help make a difference for young people and to find the rising stars of the future.

HS2 is a £100bn+ investment in the UK’s infrastructure, with the West Midlands at the heart of the new network. In this region alone, there will be two brand new stations, the HS2 Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot and the Network Infrastructure Control Centre (NICC) for the whole high speed rail network.

If you have answered yes to any of the questions above, or simply want to see what is on offer from the GBSLEP Sustainability Hub, visit the Hub and see the support programmes on offer.

Any SME registered for business within the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP can receive 1-to-1 advice from a Growth Hub Adviser. Any business with between 11 and 249 employees registered for business within the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP geography can access the Clean Growth support programmes.

If you are offering employment opportunities, UK Government is asking  if you could complete the Vacancy information questionnaire, so we they understand more about your offer. After you have returned the questionnaire to offerwork@homeoffice.gov.uk, your organisation will be contacted by the National Employer and Partnership Team in the Department for Work and Pensions within 5 working days, to discuss the roles available.

HMRC help and support if your business is affected by COVID-19

Last month, HMRC, updated the guidance about the support available for businesses affected by COVID-19, to include details for upcoming webinars on declaring your grants on your Company Tax Return (CT600). The webinars will cover how to report Covid-19 support payments and grants on Company Tax Returns, what happens if businesses have claimed too much and details of what business records to keep.

Businesses can also use HMRC’s digital assistant to find more information about the COVID-19 support schemes.

Energy Advice

Make net zero a reality with free specialist advice

Worcestershire County Council is piloting a new programme, aimed at supporting organisations across the county to decarbonise to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The Zero Carbon Ready Worcestershire programme, funded by the UK Community Renewal Fund, provides organisations with specialist decarbonisation advice to identify where existing energy consumption can be reduced and energy efficiency be improved.

As well as decarbonisation advise, 50% match funding will be provided to organisations and businesses for the purchase and installation of Smart Meters.

Worcestershire Apprenticeships Awards open for Entries

Entries to the 2022 awards are open with apprentices, employers, schools and training providers in Worcestershire being encouraged to submit their entries or nominations via the online nomination process, before the 15 July deadline.

After the 'virtual' success of the awards in 2021, the Worcestershire Apprenticeships team have confirmed that this year’s awards will be returning to the physical awards evening format on 17 November, at the West Midland Safari Park.

Worcestershire County Council and the Worcestershire Growth Hub have announced registrations are now open for their upcoming Business Worcestershire Conference on Tuesday 28 June at Sixways Stadium Worcester, 8am – 12:45pm.

 The conference will look at how your business can tackle some of the biggest challenges and embrace the opportunities businesses are facing to drive your business forward.

This year’s conference has been built around the key theme ‘Shaping Our Future’ and will focus on three hot topics: Innovation & Technology, Net Zero and Business Growth.  

Through thought-provoking discussions and talks, attendees will hear the latest thinking from inspiring speakers, have the chance to take part in expert-led sessions and will have plenty of time to network and learn about the support on offer to local businesses.

The conference is open to all businesses across the county of all sizes, from Start-Ups to SMEs to large-scale corporations and is free to attend.

Brexit

Opportunity to secure 50% funding towards the ‘Leading Business Growth’ Programme

The Leading Business Growth programme at Warwick Business School is a 12-day programme aimed at leaders within established companies who have the ambition to reach their next stage of growth.   

 The programme consists of over 6 face-to-face workshops, spaced across 7 months which will enable leaders to understand how to drive sustainable growth and address the key challenges facing business leaders today. The programme also includes the opportunity to work on a business project, centred on a real-world problem facing your business. Fees for this programme are £12,500.  You may be eligible to part-fund your studies through the Supplier Skills Programme (SSP)* which offers a training grant of 50% of the fees. To register your interest in SSP funding please contact SSP@birmingham.gov.uk, or to discuss your proposal in person, please call 0121 303 3664. 

Grant funding is subject to meeting the SSP eligibility criteria.  You must also be approved for funding before applying to the Leading Business Growth Programme at Warwick Business School (WBS).

Clayton

Welcome to two new NWedR team members

Clayton Maponga, Programme Delivery Manager

Clayton has joined the NWedR team reporting directly to Ostap Paparega.  Formerly at University of Wolverhampton in a Senior Capital Projects Manager, Clayton is taking the lead on key Future High Street Fund projects in Kidderminster and the Redditch Town Deal programmes. 

Clayton’s experience includes leading, managing, and implementing multiple major projects in the UK.


Naznin

Naznin Chowdhury, Programme Delivery Manager

In her role at NWedR, Naznin is reporting to Ostap Paparega, working with colleagues and partners to deliver projects funded by the Government's Levelling Up fund.

She is working remotely but every two weeks will be at Wyre Forest House for team meetings, and important visits.

Naznin’s previous role was also in local government for a London borough. She was a Project Manager for the Tower Hamlets new Town Hall!
