Step 4 out of Covid lockdown means that legal restrictions have been lifted, all businesses can open and the government is no longer instructing people to work from home.
To support businesses through this next phase, the government’s ‘Working Safely’ guidance will continue to provide advice on sensible precautions employers can take to manage risk and support their staff and customers.

Planning application submitted for Former Magistrates Court in Kidderminster
A detailed planning application has been submitted to Wyre Forest District Council for the complete re-development of the Former Magistrates Court in Kidderminster.
Architects Burrell Foley Fischer, working in consultation with NWedR on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council have submitted the application which will transform the Former Magistrates Court building in Worcester Street, Kidderminster town centre.
Plans for the site transform the space into a cultural and creative hub. The space provides a range of flexible work, performance and production spaces and co-working areas in the main buildings and historic former weaving sheds.

Jobs at new Amazon facility
The Amazon Sortation Centre at Redditch Eastern Gateway which will start operations later this year will create 200 new permanent jobs over two years. Amazon is recruiting for a range of new roles including engineers, flow control specialists, robotics engineering specialists and team members who will ship customer orders.
The new sortation centre is being fitted with advanced Amazon Robotics technology which will help sort parcels from Amazon’s fulfilment centres before they are transported to delivery stations from where they are collected by drivers for delivery to customers.

Business Awards open for entries
The second North Worcestershire Business Awards organised by North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration (NWedR) and North Worcestershire Business Leaders (NWBL) is now open for entries. There are seven award categories, the winners of which will be presented a gorgeous glass trophy at the awards dinner at Hogarth’s Stone Manor Hotel near Kidderminster in November. The awards dinner will be hosted by BBC presenter and journalist, Joanne Malin.
All businesses based in North Worcestershire – covering Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest districts – are encouraged to view the nomination categories online at www.NWBusAwards.org and select which one is most appropriate for them to enter.

Deep dive into tech
BetaDen, Worcestershire's tech accelerator would like to invite you to its next free Tech Tuesday event on Tuesday 7th September from 12pm till 1pm. The Peer Networks programme through Worcestershire Business Central provides businesses with a FREE support network with 1-1 and group sessions designed to help businesses collaborate and overcome their challenges together. Do you need to up-skill your workforce?
Part funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and managed by Birmingham City Council (BCC), SSP is aimed at existing Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) seeking to up-skill new and existing employees. SSP responds directly to the skills and training needs identified by SMEs for their employees, thereby offering SMEs what they want and at the time they need It, in order to implement their skills and growth plans.
Training grants of between £500 to a maximum of £18,000 per SME are available and training will be funded 50% by the SME and 50% by the European Social Fund grant. Complete your application form now to be considered.

Have you had your jab?
Anyone who is eligible can book their coronavirus vaccination appointments online or by telephoning 119 or simply wait for your invite from your GP. (You can use the same link to check the up to date eligibility criteria.)
If you are called for a vaccine, do take up the offer. Vaccines are safe and are our way out of lockdown. 1 in 3 people with Covid have no symptoms and are unaware they could be spreading the virus. Public Health in Worcestershire is recommending anyone who has to regularly leave their home, gets tested twice a week using a regular rapid test (lateral flow test -LFT). Find out how to get a regular rapid test on the County Council’s website.
