Culture and heritage bid for £17.9 million grant

We're really excited to announce a regeneration proposal worth £17.9 million has been submitted to the Government’s Levelling Up Fund by North Worcestershire Economic Development Regeneration on our behalf.

There are three key projects in the proposal; refurbishing Kidderminster Town Hall, bringing an empty listed heritage building in the heart of town back into use and creating a new walking and cycle pathway along the canal towpath.

We are working in partnership with Kidderminster Town Council and Worcestershire County Council and our proposal is worth £17.9 million. There is a strict criteria for applications which we believe this culture and heritage led bid meets. We will find out if we have been successful in Autumn 2021.

Keep playing your part

Anyone aged 18 or over can now book a jab in England, either online or by calling 119.

Book your vaccine

By Monday 19 July, it's hoped that all adults will have had their first dose and everyone aged over 50 - and the clinically extremely vulnerable - will have been offered their second.

More than 71,000 people have at least had their first vaccine in the Wyre Forest and 409,757 in total across Worcestershire.

Vaccines are safe and are one of the ways to keep ourselves, our loved ones and community safe.

Let's all keep playing our part!

Business grants

The deadline for Restart Grant applications was Wednesday 30 June. As of Wednesday 30 June, we have made 654 payments totalling £4.9 million. This huge milestone has been made possible by our officers’ hard work with all businesses we believe to be eligible receiving the grant. There are a small number of payments yet to be made but we are awaiting further information from the businesses to check eligibility before paying.

Teddy bear self isolating isolate

Help if you need to self isolate

If you test positive for coronavirus or have been identified as a contact by NHS Test and Trace, you must now self-isolate by law.

A new £500 lump sum self-isolation support payment is available to help people on low incomes who are unable to work from home if they are told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace and will lose income as a result.

Love parks week

Love Parks week

We are lucky to have fantastic parks and nature reserves in our district. Their popularity has grown hugely over the past year, but there has been extra pressure on them during the pandemic.

At the end of the month (23 July - 1 August) it's Love Parks week. This year the theme is asking users to Love, Respect and Protect our parks. Look out for the #LoveParks on social media.

Ragwort

Help our rangers!

Our rangers are looking for volunteers to help reduce the amount of ragwort on our reserves.

Ragwort is a food source for a wide range of insects and attractive for many pollinators but its poisonous qualities can make it a problem for grazing animals. We are not looking to get rid of it completely, just reduce its dominance.

Can you help? Let us know by emailing our rangers or calling 01562 732928.

Landlord forum success

More than 120 private landlords across Worcestershire tuned in for an online forum we organised at the start of June.

We worked with the National Residential Landlords Association to set up the event, which included the other district councils in the county. The event aimed to help landlords understand the latest changes to regulations due to Covid-19.

Landlords can sign up for free to Landlord Connect to keep up-to-date with important and interesting news. Updates will include, legislative updates, available grants, information on financial incentives available for landlords and free training events.

Flytipping

#CrimeNotToCare about flytipping

We've launched a campaign to help residents avoid accidentally passing their waste to rogue traders and contributing to flytipping.

We've joined forces with Keep Britain Tidy and their #CrimeNotToCare campaign.

#CrimeNotToCare aims to help householders learn about the right thing to do with their rubbish and to reduce the amount of household waste that is flytipped by rogue traders who offer to take people’s waste away for money and then dump it.
