COVID-19 UPDATE
BUSINESS SUPPORT
A full range of business support measures have been made available to UK businesses and employees.
This bulletin focuses on the business rates holiday and cash grants measures and provides links to wider government support for businesses and their employees.
Business rates and cash grants
Business rates holiday for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses
Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors in England will not have to pay business rates for the 2020-21 tax year. Businesses that received the retail discount in the 2019-20 tax year will be rebilled by their local authorities as soon as possible.
Business grants
Cash grant for Retail, Hospitality and Leisure businesses:
Businesses with a property that has a rateable value of up to £15,000 will receive a grant of £10,000.
Businesses with a property that has a rateable value of over £15,000 and less than £51,000 will receive a grant of £25,000.
Small Business Grant Funding
Businesses that already pay little or no business rates because of small business rates relief, rural rate relief and tapered relief will receive a one-off grant of £10,000, subject to eligibility.
When and how can businesses access this support?
It is not expected the Government will give councils the funding until early April. Once the funding has reached your local council, it will be distributed to all eligible businesses.
To check if you are eligible for any of the support measures listed above go to
the Government's dedicated Coronavirus business support website.
If your business is eligible and your local council does not already have your bank account details, you can expect us to contact you over the next week to ask for them. Find out more:
