Our December Board meeting

Board meeting

In December the full Board met in-person for the third quarterly meeting of 2025/26.

Board members started the meeting by hearing a safeguarding case study from a local GP practice, highlighting lots of excellent work and good practice in the system, as well as thoughts on learning to take forward. The Board is committed to keeping the voice of adults with lived experience of safeguarding centred in their discussions, and tries to hear a case study during each Board meeting.

A presentation on the work of the Quality Assurance and Safeguarding Information Group (QASIG) was delivered to members, followed by an update from CQC on regulatory monitoring of care services in West Sussex. The Board received updates from all statutory partners (Local Authority, Police and NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board) on mental health services and had the opportunity to discuss this important topic together. The results of the bi-annual self-assessment and assurance process were also presented, and Board members were able to sign-off on what was agreed to be the most successful bi-annual process to date. Thanks were noted to all Board members and others who participated in the process.
The final full Board for this financial year will take place in March 2026.

Shaw Trust Web Accessibility Accreditation

Shaw Trust Accessible

The West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board and Sussex Safeguarding Adults Policy and Procedures sites have been awarded the Shaw Trust Web Accessibility Accreditation.

This means that the sites have been tested by people with a wide range of disabilities and found to be accessible. The Shaw Trust Digital Assessment and Accreditation process is rigorous. Over 60 hours of accessibility testing by users with a disability goes into each and every accreditation. This is in addition to a stringent technical assessment by their digital auditors. All assessments are carried out in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 A and AA criteria.

We hope you'll join us in celebrating this significant achievement in recognition of the work that we have put into these websites.

LAUNCHED: New for 2026, our blog!

If there's one thing we learned from 2025, it's that we've got a lot to say. So this year, we're doing things a little differently.

You might have noticed that throughout 2025 we circulated a number of special edition newsletters, exploring key safeguarding topics and featuring subject experts from across our partnership. We know that these newsletters are a really popular source of information, but can get buried at the bottom of your inbox beneath the meeting invites, Intranet digests, and the neverending emails.

So, with all that said, we're introducing our new West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board blog; a home for all of those thematic explorations and discussions on adult safeguarding policy, learning, and research.

We hope that you'll make checking our blog part of your routine, with a frequency somewhere between flipping your mattress and changing your socks (a broad target, hopefully). But don't worry if you forget; we'll be sure to let you know of any new blog posts in our weekly bulletins. So, head over to our blog for:

  • Welcome to our blog: new for 2026!
  • Recognising and coping with vicarious trauma in the workplace
  • What did we learn from our learning pathway pilot?
  • Reflections: 11 in January challenge for Turning Tides
