Change the Conversation

Monday 17 November 2025

This week is Safeguarding Adults Week. During this week, we'll be sharing daily bulletins with you, related to the Ann Craft Trust themes.

Today's theme

Today we’re kicking off Safeguarding Adults Week by taking a look at ‘proactive intervention’, and how we can work to create safer environments in our organisations and actively work to prevent abuse and neglect.

How does this relate to the Board?

Promotional Resources

As a Safeguarding Adults Board, one of our aims is to raise awareness of adult safeguarding, to support both staff and members of the public to identify, and know how to respond to, the abuse and neglect of adults with care and support needs.

We have worked with our colleagues in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove to create a suite of resources for use by professionals, community groups and organisations, and members of the public. You can download and print each of these from our website.

In addition to these leaflets and posters, we have also adapted short animations, originally developed by Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board, which are intended to support adults to recognise abuse and neglect, and to open up conversations around healthy boundaries and relationships.

'Tricky Friends' animation

'Tricky Friends' is a short animation that explains what a good friendship looks like, when friendships might be harmful, and how you can access support if your friendships are making you sad. The animation is just 3.5 minutes long, and is designed to be used by anybody. So, please do share with your family, friends, carers, and groups or organisations you attend. You can view the ‘Tricky Friends’ animation on YouTube

'Hidden Harms' animation

‘Hidden Harms’ is an animation which highlights the unique challenges that older adults face when domestic abuse occurs. The animation is intended to be a tool for professionals and family members to support a conversation with older adults, and to encourage them to access support, if they are experiencing abuse. You can view the ‘Hidden Harms’ animation on YouTube

How ‘visible’ are safeguarding materials in your organisation? Conduct an audit of your environment to review how your organisation is raising awareness of adult safeguarding.

Check communal areas, such as staff rooms and kitchens, to see whether you are displaying any of our materials, including those to raise awareness of your local Safeguarding Adults Board, or highlighting how to raise a safeguarding concern. If you have public-facing areas in your organisation, check that you have posters and leaflets accessible, including easy read versions of our materials.

We know that creating safer environments in our organisations relies on having a culture that allows people to feel heard, that encourages learning and reflection, and that is well led.

For further reading about creating a safer culture in your organisation, visit the Ann Craft Trust website:

Amongst these resources you’ll find information about what constitutes a ‘safer culture’; how to talk to people about organisational culture; and a self-evaluation resource to identify areas for improvement for creating a more open, safer culture in your organisation.
