The OPP will be completely unavailable on Tuesday 24 June until 5.00pm. This is due to essential maintenance that is taking place. The Right From The Start: West Sussex Early Years and Childcare Strategy 2024-27 was launched a year ago. This was developed to recognise the importance of getting it right in early years by establishing and embedding positive outcomes for children through a system-wide approach.
The strategy focuses on removing barriers that prevent children from accessing high quality experiences. By intervening early and focusing support and resources where they are needed most, this will help narrow the attainment gap.
This work is governed through the Children First Partnership Board.
So far, the strategy has led to several key outcomes, including but not limited to:
- a multi-agency working group has been meeting termly to ensure professional support and challenge around the strategy work and to identify areas for joint working. This group includes members from Public Health, NHS, Parent Carer Forum, early years and childcare providers, HomeStart, Healthy Child Programme, Early Help, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) Commissioning, voluntary sector and adult learning
- all 8 priority areas have a named lead to drive forward work, which is supported by priority action plans
- there is a multi-agency workforce steering group in place and the careers in childcare web page has been developed
- a Jobs in Childcare newsletter for jobseekers to subscribe to has been created. This includes the opportunity for providers to advertise roles for free to local people looking to work in the sector
- specialist SEND and Inclusion Early Years and Childcare Advisers and SEND and Inclusion Mentors are now in place to provide targeted support to children, with 168 children benefitting from this to date
-
free paediatric first aid training is available to support providers around the implementation of the EYFS safeguarding reforms
Further updates will be made via this newsletter as work progresses however if you would you like more information or to get involved please contact family.info.service@westsussex.gov.uk.

If you inform us of re-opening, you will be reinstated on the public list and appear on our website www.westsussex.gov.uk/fis.
We would expect you to make contact with your Early Years and Childcare Adviser (EYCA) to talk through your circumstances, where possible, before making the decision to close the setting. If you are not able to make immediate contact with your EYCA then please email your nearest EYCA team using the following email addresses:
Where there are not clearly evidenced reasons why the setting had no option but to close, there could be implications for funding received as per the government guidance.
