In December 2024, the Department for Education announced the early years expansion grant 2025/26. This will provide an additional £75 million of funding to support the sector as it prepares to deliver the final phase of expansion of the Early Years Funded Entitlements (EYFE) for Working Families from September 2025.
The allocation for West Sussex is £1,312,771, which is made up of £713,822 for under 2’s and £598,949 for 2-year-olds. 100% of this grant will be passed through to providers.
The grant will be distributed directly to all providers, based on hours delivered in the spring term 2025, for all children aged 2 years old and under. This includes both EYFE for Working Families, and the 2 year old Local Authority Issued EYFE.
Providers are able to use this funding in a way that best suits their expansion needs and plans.
Funding will be received by the local authority in July 2025 and will be paid to providers as a one off lump sum by 31 August 2025.
The Early Years Expansion 2025/26 Allocation report for your setting will be made available to view and download via the on the Online Provider Portal by the end of today (10 April 2025).
View our report help guide for more information on how to access this report. Your setting will only be eligible for the grant where you had funded children aged 2 years old and under in the spring term 2025.
