Name
Hatem Bedda
Role
Digital Volunteer
Library you volunteer at and how often
Chichester and the Witterings, every Wednesday and Thursday.
How long have you been a volunteer?
Nearly 5 years
Why did you decide to become a volunteer with the Library Service?
When I opted for redundancy, I decided to take early retirement. One of the options I chose to fill my time was to volunteer. When I saw that the library was looking for digital volunteers (previously known as computer buddies), I thought it was the perfect fit as IT was the field I worked in.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy helping people resolve issues that frustrated them and stopped them from doing what they needed to do for some time. I also enjoy teaching them new skills to help them make the most of their devices.
What would you say to someone considering a volunteer role with the library service?
I would say this a worthwhile service. Not only do you help people do things they are unable or anxious to do on their own but also both you and the customer will enjoy the rewards of bringing things to a resolution and the benefits of social interaction and building relationships.
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I enjoy cycling, walking, travelling and baking.
Is there anything more about your role you’d like to share?
The role gives you the incentive to grow your knowledge as there is always something new to learn. It is also a vehicle for socialising with other volunteers and library staff, as well as the members of the public.
