Friday 21 February 2025
Today, the Department for Education (DfE) published an updated “Early education and childcare statutory guidance for local authorities – February 2025”. This can be accessed on the GOV.UK webpage. We are now reviewing the updates and what this will mean in practice.
The DfE state that the changes place a key emphasis on transparency in how the entitlements are passed on to parents, including that all costs should be clear to parents upfront and a greater clarification of what are considered 'consumables’. The guidance also reaffirms, in line with a recent High Court judgment, where additional charges must not be mandatory.
As you are aware, our current Early Years and Childcare Provider Declaration is due to expire 31 March 2025. We are working at pace to review the updated statutory guidance and ensure this is reflected in the Provider Declaration. Further information will be shared at the earliest opportunity.
