We are pleased to share that this year we are running a series of online self-neglect staff briefings, for staff across the partnership.

To book on to one of the remaining dates, please email: safeguardingadultsboard@westsussex.gov.uk.

Multi-Agency Risk Management (MARM) subgroup: deadlines for referrals

Our MARM subgroup considers adults who remain at high risk of harm despite previous intervention efforts. The purpose of the subgroup is to ensure that multi-agency communication and information-sharing takes place on a regular basis and to support staff and their managers with the most complex and concerning circumstances of adults who are at risk.

If you would like to make a referral to the MARM subgroup, please note the deadlines for submission, which can be found on our website.

Learning from Safeguarding Adults Reviews: are you making time to speak with adults alone?

Learning Icon

In our Safeguarding Adults Review in respect of Tom, published in October 2024, the reviewer identified that there is a need for agencies to ensure that adults with care and support needs are given the opportunity to be seen alone for reviews, assessments, visits, and field supervision checks.

This is with a view to providing opportunities for adults to disclose abuse and neglect where there is coercion and control in a relationship.

With this in mind, we are asking that you please take time to revisit our learning briefing in relation to professional curiosity, which covers the importance of professional curiosity, and how to develop your professional curiosity skills. Please share this resource widely within your networks.

UPDATED: Sussex multi-agency procedures to support adults who self-neglect

Section 2.8. ‘Sussex multi-agency procedures to support adults who self-neglect’ of the Sussex Safeguarding Adults Policy and Procedures has been updated.

These procedures set out a framework for collaborative multi-agency working within Sussex to provide a clear pathway for all agencies to follow when working with adults who are self-neglecting. They are to assist staff from any agency who are working with, and supporting, an adult who is self-neglecting.

These procedures should be referenced whether or not the threshold for safeguarding has been met. Where the threshold for safeguarding is not met, staff may find it easier to refer to the standalone ‘Sussex Self-Neglect Practice Guidance for Staff’, which reflects key points from the full procedures.
