Welcome to our July newsletter containing all the latest news and updates from across West Sussex.
Following our recent consultations in Horsham, Crawley and Mid Sussex, Chichester residents are now being asked for their views on the proposed locations of new electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints in their area.
People who live in the following roads should have already received a letter explaining the proposals and giving details of a four-week consultation, which runs until Wednesday 24 July:
- Riverside, PO19 7LW
- Stocks Lane, PO20 8NR
- Highfield Lane, PO20 2DL
- The Leys - Singleton, PO18 0HP
- Crooked Lane, PO20 7HA
- Lower Culvers, GU31 5LE
- Peerley Close, PO20 8PB.
The proposed locations of the new roadside chargepoints have been selected because either a member of the public has made a request, or the location has been identified as an area with limited off-road parking and a lack of nearby public chargepoints.
So far 215 chargepoints have been installed across West Sussex on the roadside and in district and borough car parks. Further proposals for Arun, Adur, and Worthing will be released in the coming months.
To view the proposed locations on a map, or suggest a location for future proposed chargepoints, please visit www.connectedkerb.com/westsussexresidents
If you are unable to complete the survey online, please call 0330 222 7770.
Two busy 'swap' events were held by our waste and recycling team at County Hall and Graylingwell Chapel in Chichester, as part of last month's Great Big Green Week.
Over 80 staff and residents attended the events where items of clothing and books were exchanged. 378 items were brought in, 220 items successfully swapped and 29 items ‘ragged’ or destined for textiles recycling.
The events helped raise awareness that clothes should not be placed in general waste and that swapping items (not just clothes), is a great way to help protect the environment and save money too!
Due to the success, our team plans to hold more events, so watch out for announcements of new dates and venues on our events page here.
Remember, you can always find out what items can be recycled, the bin you need to use or which Recycling Centre you can take it to, by visiting our handy 'A to Z of recycling' guide on the link below.
Local Nature Recovery Strategies are a new initiative from the Environment Act 2021. There are two strategies being developed for Sussex, which have already sought the views from people and organisations through surveys, workshops and conversations.
But a more creative approach is needed to engage the future custodians of our landscape – our young people!
The Sussex Nature Recovery team invites those aged 5-17 to show us what nature means to them by taking a photo, drawing a picture or writing a poem in response to four statements about nature. Submissions will be posted on our website and each artist, poet, or photographer will be entered into a prize draw to win one of ten £25 Post Office One4all Gift Cards (accepted in over 170 brands in-store and online).
