The carbon footprint of a typical paperback is about the same as watching 6 hours of TV
Borrow - don't buy and help reduce your carbon footprint in 2024!
The carbon footprint of a typical paperback is about the same as watching 6 hours of TV.
Each Schools Library Service book is borrowed and read by many children, helping to cut carbon emissions and protect our environment for the future.
Making new books has an environmental footprint which includes cutting down trees, chemicals and water used in manufacturing and the transportation of raw materials/products. Every new book generates carbon emissions that are contributing to climate change so the more times each book is read, the more worthwhile that use of resources becomes.
Would you like to talk about children's books? Come along to the next online SLS Primary Book Chat, share the books that work well for you and hear about new titles recently added to the SLS catalogue. Share good practice with fellow teachers, librarians and school staff and discover quality texts to use in your classroom.
We will be hosting the next SLS Primary Book Chat on
Tuesday 6 February 3.45 – 4.45 pm
All attendees will also be entered into a prize draw to win one FREE book pack of fiction and non-fiction to be raffled at the end of the session.
You can sign-up for a link to this MS Teams session via our online form: https://yourvoice.westsussex.gov.uk/sls-primary-book-chat
SLS Primary Book Chats are free to all school staff including subject leaders, class teachers, LSAs and school librarians.

Our Mobile Library has been visiting schools around the county to provide opportunities for children to access a range of books to borrow and share in school with friends and family. The children love boarding the bus to choose books and have been sharing their book reviews with our SLS bear! Come and view our Mobile Library display and read the feedback from the children, next time we visit your school!
