In Victorian and Edwardian times, small estates were created in the Sussex Weald by wealthy families investing in their hobbies and interests.
The talk, entitled The Victorian and Edwardian leisure estate in the Sussex Weald c.1850-1914, will be given by local historian Dr Sue Berry.
It will be held at West Sussex Record Office at 7.00pm on Tuesday 26 September (limited numbers; booking essential); alternatively, join us online via Zoom.
To attend in person (£8), please ring 01243 753602 to book and pay; or you can book online for £5!
In the first three months of this year, residents in West Sussex lost a total of just over £3.5million to criminals using different types of scams. The majority of victims were aged 60 or over and just under half of the reports came from people living alone.
To stop individuals becoming victims of fraud and blackmail, we have two Are you scam savvy? events running in August, both online and in person, at Horsham Library, on Wednesday 2 August and Bognor Regis Library, on Tuesday 15 August.
The sessions are free and for anyone who wants to keep themselves, friends and family, from falling victim to different types of scams. These can include telephone, courier and romance fraud, which have all become of increasing concern in West Sussex.
To attend online, just click on the relevant link below or come into Horsham or Bognor Library on the day at 10.00am.
After each session, colleagues from our Digital Safety Team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have or to provide information on how to be more scam aware.
We are supporting V2 Radio’s Tonnes of Tins Campaign, which runs until Friday 11 August. The aim is to collect as many tins of food as possible to pass on to local food banks, homeless refuges and family support teams who all directly support those in food insecurity. Donation points can be found in libraries across the county.
For more information on the campaign, take a look at the V2 Radio website!
We like to keep our books looking as nice as possible for your enjoyment, and we ask that you look after them as well. So, although we completely understand that sometimes library books and other items get damaged, you may be asked to contribute towards a replacement.
Our goal in doing this is to get a copy of that item back on the shelves so others can continue to enjoy it. Please note we don’t charge for children’s replacement board and picture books.
