The scheme will improve cycling and walking routes and make public spaces more appealing through Burgess Hill town centre and Wivelsfield Railway Station. The contractor has recently resurfaced the carriageway in Station Road from Waitrose up to Keymer Road roundabout and further resurfacing is proposed following the alterations at the Station Road/Civic Way/Queen Elizabeth Avenue roundabout. The Civic Way roundabout works include:
- Widening of the footways, relocating, and upgrading a pedestrian crossing to a Toucan type (which allows bicycles to be ridden across) in Station Road,
- Upgrading an existing crossing in Queen Elizabeth Avenue to a Toucan crossing and providing new and larger pedestrian island and raised crossing points on two arms of the junction (Civic Way & Queen Elizabeth Avenue).

The A259 improvement scheme at Littlehampton and Angmering is now complete, with works taking place in two phases:
- From the new Nightingale Way roundabout to the Body Shop roundabout.
- From the Station Road (Blue Star) roundabout in Angmering to the A280 roundabout, including the Roundstone roundabout.
The aim of the scheme was to widen approximately 2km of the existing single carriageway on the A259 to a dual carriageway which will:
- reduce journey times.
- cut traffic congestion – saving around 670 tons of CO2 per year.
- support existing and future housing and commercial developments in Arun.
- enable more active travel in the area with 2km of new pathways and cycleways.

The Scheme will deliver a new 4.34km road to the east of Eastergate, Westergate and Woodgate villages in two phases:
- Phase 1 (north)- From the A29 south of Eastergate Lane to a new junction with Barnham Road. Video link here
- Phase 2 (south)- From Barnham Road to a new junction on the A29 south of Lidsey bends.
What we are working on now:
- We have been successful in discharging our planning conditions
- We have completed the trial holes on Fontwell and Barnham Road and its design checks. BT has completed cable protection works at Barnham Road and will be planning for cabling switch overs on Fontwell Avenue for Autumn 2023.
- We will be undertaking a second round of archaeological investigations on part of the route in Autumn 2023.
- Ecological monitoring and works will be ongoing during Autumn 2023.
- Minor alterations to the planning approval during Summer 2023 to include for an additional field access for agricultural purposes.

The Scheme aims to alleviate traffic issues through Lyminster Village with the northern section of the bypass completing the link road from the A27 at Crossbush, providing access to Littlehampton.
In the last six months we have completed:
- All the piles for the viaduct (foundations driven deep into the ground) nine of the ten piers (vertical support structures)
- One of the two abutments (the end piers) for the bridge.
The remaining pours will complete in the next fortnight and installation of the bridge beams is scheduled to commence late in August.
In the section of the road between the existing bridleway and the ancient hedgerow to the north
- All excess topsoil has been removed and the road excavation has commenced.
- Drainage works have also been completed in this area.
- Ducts have been installed for the electric cables to supply the signs, lighting columns and traffic lights.
North of the ancient hedgerow, the soil is not good enough quality for construction. So, chalk was placed on top to raise the levels for the road construction. Above the chalk a surcharge (additional material) was placed to expedite the ground compacting and settling to the correct level. Once the settlement is completed the surcharge will be removed and the road excavation in this area will begin.
