How well do you know your Sussex history?
It's Sussex Day on Friday 16 June and our local history librarians have put their heads together and come up with a Sussex Day Quiz.
Are you up for the challenge?
Do you love a good crime novel? To mark Sussex Day and National Crime Reading Month we’ve come up with some binge-worthy crime series with a Sussex connection.
Browse our list to find your next great read of either a crime book set in Sussex or one written by a local author.
It can also be your June pick for the West Sussex Libraries Reading Challenge.

This month sees the launch of the Worthing Festival and we are pleased to be involved with a series of events, all taking place at Worthing Library.
- Wednesday 14 June at 4.00pm - Who Do You Think You Are? This is a spoken word workshop for teens run by poet-librarian Rhi Kavok.
- Saturday 17 June at 11.00am – Come along to our regular Saturday Storytime and meet local children’s author John Bond. John will be reading his latest book Much Too Busy and will perform a step-by-step draw-a-long of one of the characters.
- Saturday 17 June – A book sale will be running throughout the day. It's a great opportunity to buy some fantastic ex-library stock, ranging from rare non-fiction all the way to your favourite bestsellers.
We're getting very excited as summer is on the way and that can only mean one thing - the return of the Summer Reading Challenge!
To help us run the challenge in our libraries we need friendly and enthusiastic volunteers aged 14 and over to:
- Help families register to take part in the challenge
- Listen to children talk about the books they have read
- Hand out rewards and encourage children to keep reading
This is an excellent opportunity to develop new skills, gain valuable work experience and make new friends so, if this sounds like something you can help us with, we'd love to hear from you.
We are currently looking at how customers use the library computers.
If you use the library computers in any of our West Sussex libraries, please take a few minutes to complete the online survey, to let us know what you use them for.
The results will be used to feed back information to both the Library Management Team and the IT Development Team, to ensure that our IT provision is fit for the future.
West Sussex County Council’s Digital Safety Team has organised three Digital Drop-ins in libraries to help residents avoid falling foul of fraudsters.
These will take place on:
- Wednesday 14 June from 10.00am-3.00pm at East Grinstead Library
- Wednesday 2 August from 10.00am-3.00pm at Horsham Library
- Tuesday 15 August from 10.00am-3.00pm at Bognor Library
From 10.00am a member of the Digital Safety Team will be delivering a session providing tips on how to spot scams and what to do if you, or your family, become a victim of online fraud.
Then, from 11.30am–3.00pm, members of the Digital Safety Team will be on hand, alongside Digital Ambassador Volunteers and our very own Digital Access Team and Digital Volunteers, to support people with any digital enquiries or to provide more information on how to be scam aware.
No appointment is necessary, so make sure you save one of these dates in your diary and do drop by to have a chat.
Did you know that we host a variety of business support events and workshops? They are especially useful to those just starting out or in the early stages of their business venture.
