Save the date! We have lots of author events available for the week beginning Monday 19 June. If you are a subscribing school and are looking to give your pupils a taste of an author event then look out for our Celebration of Reading Newsletter, coming soon. There are a range of different events available and an offer for book purchase, which will include all the latest titles and some of the backlist of each author presenting.

EmpathyLab is a community interest not for profit registered company. They provide access to resources for Primary and Secondary schools, related to books as tools for teaching empathy. Resources and promotion available includes:

Empathy Day is now established as a national day with mass support from children's authors, publishers, library services and schools. Empathy Day 2023 is Thursday 8 June.
- Schools' Programme with Pioneer Schools across the country to yield very promising results, as shown in evaluation reports.
- Annual Read for Empathy Guides, with associated book collections chosen by an expert panel.
Contact us if you would like to purchase any of the titles recommended for EmpathyLab day (at 25% discount if you are a subscribing school) or if you are a subscribing school and would like titles included in your Project Loans or your exchange (subject to availability).

Booktrust - changes to the Early Years programme for 2023/24
The Booktrust has decided to discontinue the Time to Read programme in 2023/24, therefore schools will no longer be contacted by the SLS to obtain Reception intake data to support delivery of the Booktime packs.
The key Early Years programmes for 2023/24 are as now as follows:
- Bookstart Baby – for 0-12 month olds, available to every child.
- Bookstart Toddler & Bookstart Pre-Schooler for 1-2 year olds and 3-4 year olds respectively, will be available for low-income families, or families in settings in areas of disadvantage.
- BookTrust StoryTime – for 0-5, for public libraries particularly those in areas of disadvantage.
- Book reviews and the Great Books guide – for children of all ages, the Great Books Guide will continue to be available to schools in hard copy.
