This year’s Summer Reading Challenge features the Gadgeteers - six young inventors who will inspire children to see the science and innovation behind everyday objects. Find out more about the challenge by watching our Gadgeteers video.
Families can pre-register to take part in Gadgeteers from today! Then tell staff at your local library the secret code word any time from Saturday 9 July to claim your goody bag with fold-out Gadgeteers map, smelly stickers and more!
Children are invited to set their own target and read whichever library books they like, returning throughout the summer to collect more rewards, tell us about their favourite book and take part in fun activities. Keep an eye on our Gadgeteers events listing as more details will be added over the coming weeks.
We look forward to seeing your family in a library this summer!

These books are also great if you're learning English, or you want something quick to read. Find them on our catalogue by searching for Quick Reads, or just ask in your local library.

MacDonald Gill, known as Max (1884-1947), lived in Sussex and was a talented graphic artist, best known for creating a distinctive range of decorative map posters for the Post Office and London Underground.
This fascinating talk is based on research carried out by Caroline Walker, the artist’s great-niece and Gill’s nephew Andrew Johnston and his wife Angela, who discovered a treasure trove of memorabilia and artwork in the remote Sussex cottage they inherited in the 1980s.
The talk will be held at West Sussex Record Office, Chichester at 7.00pm on Tuesday 27 September (tickets £8, advance booking essential on 01243 753602).
