Hands in a circle

Hello, I am Kathryn Slatter. I am writing to introduce myself as the Chair of the Violence Against Women and Girl’s Forum and to tell you about the valuable work of the Forum. The Forum brings together both statutory and voluntary organisations in West Sussex including:

These organisations all work with women and girls and support the idea that no woman should live in fear of violence and every girl should grow up knowing she is safe. We aim to increase understanding in society about the problem of violence against women and girls and its impact. We hope by doing this we might help to change attitudes and improve safety for women and girls.

Violence against women and girls is a big problem, the most recent statistics suggest 1 in 5 women being the victims of sexual assault in their lifetime, over 27% of women experiencing domestic abuse and 20% of women aged experienced stalking.

As part of our work, we support others, including the Women’s Safety Group, to improve the safety of women and girls. As local experts we come together to tackle the issues of violence against women, share resources and information and campaign for changes in legislation.

We are hoping this year to recruit a communications and media officer to help us to raise awareness in West Sussex of the issues effecting women and girls.
