We are happy to confirm that, as from July 1, all West Sussex libraries will extend their current opening hours. We hope that this will allow greater flexibility for customers to visit the library at different times throughout the week and will provide more opportunities for browsing, using computers and study space.
However, in line with government guidance, the following safety measures will remain in place until further notice. These include:
- Restricted numbers in the library building
- Wearing a face covering (unless exempt)
- Social distancing
- Hand sanitising
- Test and Trace
- Bookable IT sessions and study space.
Please check the opening hours for your branch and our Customer Charter before you visit, to see what measures are in place and what you can do to help.

Our Select and Collect service will continue for customers who prefer to keep time in the library to a minimum and we will still offer an Essential Delivery Service for customers who are unable to get to the library.
We will also be piloting some of our regular activities in a COVID-safe way over the coming months, and hope to reintroduce these properly in the autumn if government guidance allows.
We would like to thank all our library customers for your patience at this difficult time and ask that you share this message with family and friends who are not online. We look forward to seeing you very soon and will continue to keep you up to date as things change over the next few weeks.

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that we’ve been having some IT issues this week. Rest assured though - we are working to resolve these as soon as possible. The good news is that our eLibrary service LIBBY is now working as normal and you can still borrow and return items from your local library.
There might be a delay in updating your loan record, but we hope to restore normal service very soon and would like to thank you for your patience.

We're delighted to be chatting to debut author Phoebe Wynne about her novel Madam. The event will be live on Zoom on Monday 5 July from 7:00pm - 8:00pm. If you'd like to join us you can register through Eventbrite.
Lots of the library staff have been reading Phoebe’s book, as part of the Adur-Worthing Reading Challenge and they are sure that, if you enjoyed novels like the Handmaid’s Tale and the Secret History, you’re going to love Madam!

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge Wild World Heroes will be launching in libraries on Saturday 10 July. The challenge features the children of Wilderville, and their trusted animal companions, who are ready to take action to save the natural world.
Children taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge will need to sign up online and quote the secret code word to collect a Wild World Heroes map and sticker pack from their local library. Then, simply borrow some books to read at home or download eBooks and eAudiobooks from our eLibrary.
As they read books for the Challenge, children can add their stickers to the map and, when they’ve completed the challenge, they can collect a medal and certificate (available from 2 August) from their local library.
It’s free for families to take part and a great way to encourage children to read for enjoyment – so important at the moment!
Look out for the invitation, coming via your child’s school, with details of how to join the challenge, and be sure to check out our Wild World Heroes webpage where we’ll be sharing more fun resources and activities throughout the summer.
