May 2021
It was wonderful to welcome so many of you back into our libraries last week. The response has been very positive and customers have not only been grateful to be back but have been telling us how much of a lifeline our service has been throughout the pandemic:
‘We had a lovely time on Tuesday choosing some more books - although we were sad to part with some very well-enjoyed ones! So good to have the library back open ‘properly’ and thank you for being there throughout the lockdown’.
Other customers have said 'we loved being back' and 'so good to be able to browse again'.
Our library staff have been delighted too: 'It has been fantastic to reconnect with our borrowers, seeing familiar faces and children excited to return'.
Make sure you tell your friends and family that we are now open for browsing again, especially if they are not online. You can check our website for the current opening hours for your branch.
And here's some more good news - we didn’t stop ordering new books while we were closed. Why not come and check out our shiny new stock? You can borrow up to 20 items at a time, as long as you can carry them!

There’s no right or wrong place to die - it will be different for everyone - but the pandemic has proven that it’s more important than ever for families to think about it, talk about it and plan for it. Dying Matters Awareness Week takes place 10-16 May, so why not find out more?
You can explore the wide range of resources on our Bereavement Support page, including links to grief support services, podcasts which tackle the sensitive subject of death and library booklists for all ages. Why not visit your local library this month to find books on loss and bereavement? We can even print copies of our booklists and Dying Matters leaflets for you – just ask!
What’s more, partners from Compassionate Communities West Sussex are hosting a wide range of free events during Dying Matters Awareness Week, including webinars on having difficult conversations, a good place to die and funeral planning.
