COVID Winter Grant Scheme - additional funding
The County Council's allocation from the COVID Winter Grant (CWG) Scheme and arrangements for distribution and support of the funding were agreed in December (decision FCR2(20/21) refers). Further to this decision, additional grant funding has been received, as detailed below. The Director of Communities has therefore administered its allocation in line with recommendation (2) of the original decision.
On 22 February the Government announced (PDF, 1.62MB) that, as part of its COVID roadmap, the CWG Scheme will be extended to 16 April, providing an additional £59.1m of extra targeted financial support for those in need during the pandemic.
The County Council will now receive an additional £691,676 taking the total received from the CWG Scheme to £2,681,267.80. The additional funding is subject to the same criteria as outlined in the original decision (FRC2(20/21)) and will be utilised to support the same areas of activity over the extended duration.
Supermarket vouchers totalling approximately £465,000 are being allocated via schools to Free School Meal eligible children to provide support during the two weeks of the Easter Holiday. Each Free School Meal eligible child will receive the equivalent of £15 per week in vouchers for each of the two weeks. This approach mirrors that taken at Christmas with the initial allocation of Winter Support Grant.
Authorities will receive 75% of their additional allocation in April and the remaining 25% will be paid on the completion of the final management information report. This aligns with the existing payment arrangements and reporting requirements.
