COVID-19 setting update 86 (Amendment to PHE flowchart, exemptions from 'rule of 6', new LADOs, Five to Thrive webinar, Foundation Years newsletter, business support training)

Advance notice - next week's DfE data capture

Next week's DfE data capture for the numbers of children currently accessing early years provision will be open from Monday, and will close at the end of Wednesday (midnight). Please use this link to complete your return.

Amendment to the PHE flowchart

Please find a link to a slightly amended flowchart for dealing with suspected and confirmed cases of Covid-19 within your setting.

Please familiarise yourself with this as it explains the correct action to take in the event of a suspected/confirmed case, and please use the attached instead of the flowchart we issued you on Tuesday. If there are any further updates in the future, we will let you know.

Please also use the PHE resource pack for education settings which went out in our setting broadcast on Tuesday 8 September.

Childcare, youth and activity groups exempt from new 'rule of 6'

The government has confirmed plans to legally limit most social gatherings to no more than six, down from 30. However, people will still be able to meet in groups of more than six for registered childcare (including wraparound care), youth groups and activities, and other children's groups when new rules on socialising come into force on Monday 14 September.

These exemptions are found within the guidance which is available here (see sections 2.10 and 2.15).

Introducing our new LADOs

To update your setting information we now have two new Local Authority Designated Officers (LADOs), Miriam Williams and Donna Tomlinson.  The LADO has overall responsibility for the management of allegations of abuse by adults who work with or volunteer with children. The LADO provides advice, in the form of consultation and specific guidance, liaising with Children’s Services, the Police and other regulatory bodies such as OFSTED and the Department for Education as needed in order to ensure a consistently fair and thorough process for both adult and child. They also manage individual cases and monitor the progress of cases for timeliness, thoroughness and fairness.

You can find more information on the West Sussex Safeguarding Partnership website. The section on Allegations Management has all the details on the roles and responsibilities of the LADO.

To make a referral or have a consultation with the LADO please email LADO@westsussex.gov.uk or call their dedicated phone line on 0330 222 6450.

Reminder - updating FIS if you open or close

Please inform the Family Information Service if your current operating status changes. Email family.info.service@westsussex.gov.uk and include your setting name, Ofsted URN, the date you intend to close/open, and any changes to your operating hours. If you inform us of re-opening, you will be reinstated on the public list and appear on our website www.westsussex.gov.uk/fis.

If you have not been able to open at this time, you should already have submitted a COVID-19 Recovery Plan and sent a copy by email to the FIS. This is so that we can look at the barriers you have identified and support you to re-open as soon as practicable. If we have not received your plan, you will be contacted by your EYCA to support you further.

Reminder - data capture survey required weekly

All providers please complete a short online survey, once a week. The link to the survey is different each time. A link will be provided in each Thursday update for the following week, and the survey will be open for three full days each week from Monday to Wednesday, closing at midnight on the Wednesday. The latest link to the survey is also available on our website.
