Horsham Library's 30th birthday celebrations

This month it’s a whole 30 years since the opening of Horsham Library! We’ll be celebrating on Wednesday 11 September with activities for adults and children throughout the day.

It wouldn’t be a birthday without a cake, so we’re marking the occasion with our Head of Libraries, Lesley Sim, who will be cutting the cake at 11.30am. Come and grab a slice!

While you’re here, take a look at our display showing the history of Horsham Library. As we opened in the 1980s, you may spot staff dressed suitably for the occasion…

microbit

As well as reminiscing about years past, we’ll be looking to the future with a recent addition to our library catalogue – the BBC micro:bit. A workshop for adults will run from 1.30pm - 2.30pm, designed to introduce the basics of coding with this accessible piece of tech. Workshop places are limited so please reserve your free ticket by contacting the library on 01403 224353.

Families can also get involved in the celebrations by joining our Toddler Time Special from 2.00pm - 2.30pm. Or why not drop in to the children’s library between 3.30pm - 4.30pm for a free craft-and-coding activity? No booking necessary.

Finally, we’d like to challenge you to read a book published in the 1980s, the decade Horsham Library was built. We've got lots of recommendations on our Horsham District Year of Culture Reading Challenge blog, or you can browse our colourful 80s book display at the library for inspiration.
